Putting up effective and creative outdoor signage is as important as making a well-planned marketing strategy. Effective banner and signage design can be tricky to pull off, especially given the advertising medium but you can still gain a lot of success if you just remember the few essentials with outdoor signs and banners for your business.
Banners are more mobile that large outdoor signs so the advantage to look at here is mobility. Banners are often deployed at events and locations where a large number of people are gathered to do something other than look at banners. Conferences, seminars, concerts, athletic events, trade shows and campus audiences are highly diversified, which is why it is so important that your banner design is striking enough to garner the attention you need to make an impact.
Outdoor signage, on the other hand, is positioned on higher grounds as a sort of nametag on a building. Originality is a must for any business and so, custom signs are a must for this case. Banners can be made by the bulk but outdoor signage has to have its own identity.
The key characteristics of a good banner and outdoor sign are the following:
Simple—simplicity sells. A clean and professional look on signage and banners gives your business a sense of credibility. Too many graphics look too casual and confusing so stick with the basic elements of design. Your banner and signage design and images should be focused on reaching a highly targeted audience. If your banner is too busy, your message will be lost in the noise. A single image, tagline, offer and call to action is all your banner or outdoor signage needs to be effective; and sometimes you can get away with even less. Remember that your audience will be viewing your signs and banners from a distance and have no time to examine the details, so your design needs to get the message across in a bold way as quickly as possible.
Well-chosen color—Outdoor banners and signs need bright colors because they have to compete with a lot of background noise; but sometimes indoor banners are more effective when subtle. If they're too loud, they can become an unwanted distraction. To help your indoor banners stand out better, try incorporating a bright border that frames a light background; and accentuate your text with a drop shadow. Outdoor signs don't necessarily need to be made with loud colors but they do need to catch your eye's attention. Bold and full fonts are the best choice for this case. Signages with cursive font are difficult to read at a distance so always consider the view from afar. If you're using images, use high resolution ones. You should at least have 300 dpi (dots per inch) or more for banners with images.
Original—custom signs are essential to a company or businesses identity. The Golden Arches at McDonald's is a perfect example of a simple, eye catching, and original design that has allowed the company billions of patrons over the years. An original idea for a banner or sign for a business or an event doesn't have to be profound, but more importantly, it has to stick with the viewer. Choose one you can identify with. Finding the right idea for an outdoor signage or indoor banner doesn't have to be hard as long as you know how you want to be perceived by your audience.

Avon calling, even after 124 years! By Sue Collier
A Ding dong, Avon Calling! I have heard of Avon constantly all through my life! In England any woman over the age of 18 who needed to make a little extra money would turn to Avon, because there were always customers. Wherever I have worked, someone would be handing round the Avon catalogue! And the prices were good, pretty affordable for all. Even today we still get ladies posting Avon catalogues through our door. The less motivated of the Avon ladies would just hand around the brochure at work, but still regularly got orders.
I was quite amazed therefore to find out what a large company Avon actually is!
Avon is the biggest direct seller in the world with over $10 Billion in annual revenue and still growing! They have around 6.2 million independent Sales Reps in 143 countries! Wow! Avon ranks at 100% in the MLM rankings for popularity. What is amazing is that Avon has been going since 1886! The Avon range has grown from just beauty products to include fashion and home products.
And the recession does not seem to have affected Avon! Of course the prices being so competitive and the fact that such a diverse range of products come delivered to your door, that does not really surprise me.
However, although hundreds of reps are enjoying using Avon to make some pocket money, the only real way to earn a six-figure income with Avon is to recruit into the business. Unfortunately the old school methods of getting people into your business just do not work anymore. And this is where Avon falls short. They do not have an online marketing system for their reps to use.
Building a big MLM business means working online as well as offline. The internet offers thousands of potential reps, who are looking for a way to supplement their income or build a big business.
What you need to do is to find a system online that will teach you the basics of marketing on the internet and show you exactly step by step how to find leads who will want to join you in your Avon business and will be eager to join the system you use, so they can duplicate what you are doing.
The Avon business as evolved over the last 124 years. Avon does lots of advertising, they keep up with the times and they have lots of products that appeal to lots of different people. And reps are still joining up each day!
